For an added element of thankfulness at your holiday table, try some gratitude rolls in the bread basket this year. They bring even more meaning to the celebration.
Has your family ever made gratitude rolls? Kind of like a Thanksgiving fortune cookie, each roll has a personal note of gratitude baked inside. Here’s how it works. Prior to the holiday, the host requests thoughts of thanks from each person who will be coming to dinner. He or she prints those onto strips of paper and inserts them into the dinner rolls before baking or warming them in the oven.
Once dinnertime arrives, it’s so meaningful to go around the table, reading each one, and trying to figure out to whom each sentiment belongs. Our family has had alot of fun with this tradition, with some notes being quite heartfelt and serious and some being downright silly. That’s what happens when you have tweens in the house.
I recommend printing the notes on a darker paper so that the butter stains are not too obvious or wrapping in foil before placing inside. We sometimes purchase Parker House rolls from the store, cut a slit in the top and insert the note into the roll before warming. Or you could easily do this with store-bought crescent rolls.
