No-Fail Method To Cooking Frozen Steak Without Thawing

How many times have you had to change dinner plans because the meat was not thawed?  No worries!  See how cooking frozen steak may actually taste better!

We can’t count the number of times where 4 o’clock has rolled around and we have no idea what we are going to make for dinner.  We open the freezer and stand there…perplexed.  There it is.  A perfectly beautiful steak, just calling our name.  But it’s frozen.  Time to break out the box of pasta.  Again.

But wait!  It turns out that we can cook a steak without thawing it…and it may actually taste better than thawed!

 

 

America’s Test Kitchen to the rescue with their very thorough experiment on how and why a frozen steak actually tastes pretty darned good.  The first step is in the freezing method, which they also show us how to execute.  We are so thankful to know that frozen steak is now a dinner option.  Guess what’s on the menu tonight?

Here are the steps for making the best steaks:

  • Heat skillet filled with 1/8″ oil
  • Sear until browned (90 seconds per side)
  • Transfer to a wire rack set in rimmed baking sheet
  • Cook in 275 degree oven until desired doneness
  • 18-20 minutes for 1″ thick steak
