Drunk Deer Slow Cooker Chili Is Healthful, Lean and Oh-So-Flavorful

If you have some venison in the freezer, thaw it out for a belly-warming treat.  Venison chili flavored with beer and whiskey is slow cooked and healthy to boot!

Some of us were raised on venison and some might be trying it for the first time.  In some areas, it is somewhat of a delicacy and restaurants in larger cities charge outrageous sums for some deer meat dishes.  Meanwhile, others in more rural areas eat it for free for most of the winter.  In some areas, hunters participate in programs where the meat is processed for direct donation to local food pantries.

If you have access to venison, you know that it is a lean meat that can be used in place of beef in many different types of recipes.

Divas Run for Bling shares her version of venison chili that she cleverly calls “Drunk Deer Chili”.  It’s got healthy veggies, beans and lean ground venison.  Then it’s flavored with spices and a bit of beer and whiskey.  Prepared in a slow cooker, it’s an easy and amazingly delicious bowl of wow!

Beans and lean meat keep this Venison Chili on the lighter side and the slow cooker makes it simple to prepare.

Here’s your ingredient list:

  • 2 lbs Ground Venison (you can substitute ground beef or turkey as well)
  • 2 15oz cans Kidney Beans, drained
  • 2 15 oz cans Black Beans, drained
  • 2 15 oz cans Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 medium Onions, chopped
  • 1 medium Green Pepper, chopped
  • 4 Garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon ground Cumin
  • 2 tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Hot Pepper Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 12oz. bottle of beer (I used Shock Top White Belgian)
