Makes about 10-12 doughnuts and 10-12 holes

Buttermilk Donuts:

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1¼ cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups (approximate) vegetable oil for frying

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 4-6 tablespoons tonic water
