Candied Yams 2 Ways: Southern-Baked Or Instant Pot

Whether you prefer oven-baking or Instant Pot, we have two amazing and easy Candied Yams recipes that will fit perfectly with your holiday meal.

As you are putting your menus together for the coming holidays, don’t forget to include some candied yams.  They are a perfect complement to other traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dishes and are really quite easy to prepare.  The key to these recipes is to use fresh yams or sweet potatoes.  None of that canned stuff!  Then choose one of these recipes, using either a baking dish or Instant Pot to cook ’em up.  Either way, you really can’t go wrong and all your guests will certainly appreciate the freshness and love that went into this dish!

Recipe 1:  Classic Southern Candied Yams:
  • 5 medium sized yams
  • 8 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground clove
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract not imitation

Recipe 2:  Farm-Fresh Instant Pot Candied Yams:
  • 1.5 cups Water, for the pressure cooker
  • 3 lbs Yams or Sweet Potatoes, Fresh (about 4 medium, weighing about 12oz ea.)
  • 5 Tbsp Butter, softened, divided
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup Brown Sugar (sweet or sweeter!)
  • 3/4 tsp Vanilla
  • small Pinch of Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups Mini Marshmallows
