Do you have an elusive family dish that no one really seems to know the exact recipe for?  One of those that Mom or Grandma just eye-balled, but it still turned out perfectly every time?  In our family, this is one of those.  We don’t have a written recipe for it and we have tried to make it like Grandma did.  But, it’s just not the same.

Here’s what you need to make this delectable pie:
  • Enough pie dough for a 9-inch pie dish

For the filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temp
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • zest from one lemon
  • juice from one lemon juice
  • 1 cup buttermilk
