You can never be too old to wear yoga pants, but mastering some of the yoga poses can be a stretch for some — even if you are 22 years old. But not to Tao Porchon-Lynch, who just turned 97 and holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s oldest living yoga teacher.
To no surprise, Tao is a former actress, model and ballroom dancer. She appeared on America’s Got Talent, and completely floored the judges earning herself a standing ovation from the audience.
Tao spends her days being a yoga master and teaching mixed-level classes in New York.
“All of my students are my family. The greatest pleasure is to see someone suddenly realize there was nothing they could not do.”
Just like Tao’s clothes, her personality is bright and bold.
Tao is living out all of her days to the fullest, she knows the value of a good laugh, and she enjoys the freedom that she feels when dancing. Tao likes to show her twenty-something-year-old dance partners a thing or two.
Even at her age, Tao never believes that it’s never too late to become what you want to be, and the seasons changing reminds her of that.
“Autumn is a reminder that while the leaves die and fall, there will always be Spring, a chance to replenish and be reborn again. We all have the opportunity to replenish ourselves, to be reborn.”
Even as Tao faced a challenge when getting into a difficult yoga pose, once she got into position she said, “Nothing is impossible!”
And those three words are the reason that Tao is so inspiring.
Happy Birthday Tao!
What a blessing and what an INSPIRATION she is and has been for some many years and for so many students. Incredible!
May God continue to bless Tao with health and happiness and many more yoga poses!
