Cooking Chicken Inside Watermelon Is Bizarre, But Is It Delicious?

Got your attention?  This is not a joke.  Cooking chicken inside a watermelon turns a fruit into a pot.  How do you think it turns out?

Yes, we were scratching our heads too.  But sometimes it’s fun just see what would happen “if”.  It turns out that this technique kind of makes sense in that a watermelon is the shape of a pot, has a lid and produces liquid for cooking.

Emmy Made In Japan sure does have some fun in the kitchen and shows us that, sometimes, it can be an adventure to turn recipes on their heads.  Try experimenting a little yourself and you may end up with a favorite new dish!

Here’s what you need to try this yourself:
  • 1 very large watermelon (duh;)
  • roaster chicken, about 5 to 6 pounds
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons chilled butter
