No Added Sugar Homemade Applesauce Is Pure And Healthy

Are you an apple lover?  Enjoy the natural tangy goodness all year long with this simple, no added sugar homemade applesauce technique.

Applesauce seems to be one of those foods that stays with us all through our lives.  It’s probably one of the first solids that a baby eats and it makes a wonderful side dish and baking ingredient for all sorts of goods.   There are tons of applesauce products on the market, but most of them have added sugars and preservatives that our bodies could probably do without.

The Free Range Life is showing us her time-honored technique for making homemade applesauce, with nothing put pure apple.  She is lucky enough to live near orchards that provide a variety of fruit and she managed to purchase 3 bushels of “seconds” for less than $10!  That might get you 4-5 jars at the store and homemade is so much better and better for you.  If you have never done this before, give this a try.  You may be hooked!

Here’s what you will need to make No Added Sugar Homemade Applesauce:

  • 1 bushel of apples for 12 quarts of sauce
  • sterilized canning jars, lids and bands
  • large pot, knives, cutting boards, assorted bowls, slotted spoons
  • strainer (like a Squeezo)
  • flavorings like cinnamon or additional fruits for variety (optional)
  • water or apple juice
